The City College of New York women's volleyball team ended their season when they fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-12) to No.1 Baruch in the quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Tournament on Tuesday evening.
CCNY and Baruch battled back-and-forth to begin the first set. As the No. 8 seed, City searched hard for a victory over the No. 1 seed. They tied 6-6 but then the Bearcats took a 16-11 lead that the Beavers were unable to stop. Baruch took the first set 25-14.
Baruch took a big lead to begin the second set as they took a 8-1 lead. City fought to chip away at the Bearcats lead. Baruch continued to dominate and took the second set 25-8.
City knew they had to win the next set in order to keep their season alive. They took a quick 2-0 lead, but Baruch would not go quietly and tied it up 5-5. The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth for the lead. Baruch went on a 5-0 run and took a 12-7 lead and never looked back. The Beavers continued to claw away at the lead in hopes for a victory over No.1 Baruch. The Bearcats took the third set and ended CCNY's season with a 25-12 win.
Angela Ubanwa led the Beavers with three kills. Veralucia tallied 11 digs, while
Cassidy Iannariello dished out a team-high four assists.
