The City College of New York men's basketball team ran past Manhattanville College 106-85 on Wednesday afternoon at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
City (5-4) started off the game with a dominating presence over Manhattanville (6-4). CCNY quickly took a 13-2 lead and just continued to add to that lead during the first half. The Valients put up a solid effort to overcome the deficit set at the beginning of the game. Manhattanville put up an impressive three from behind-the-arc for a .583 three point field goal percentage. However, City shot .639 from the field and .500 from the three point line.
The Beavers put up a season-high 54 points in the first half. Their previous high was 34 points, which they did twice during the season.
Khalil Hamer led the Beavers with 13 points, while
David Solano added 11. Ram Chada and
Will Rhodes grabbed four boards a piece in the first half to help City outrebounded the Valients by 10.
Entering into the second half, the Beavers continued to add onto their lead. While Manhattanville put up good numbers in the second half, they were unable to stop the dominating Beavers. City shot .531 from the field in the second half. City forced 13 turnovers and turned that into 23 points to add onto their impressive score.
Hamer finished the game with 17 points for the Beavers. Five other student-athletes scored in double-digits in the victory;
Mark Richards (12), Ram Chada (14),
David Solano (14), Robert Dionisio (13), and Rhodes (13). Chada led the Beavers with eight boards, while Hamer dished out seven assists.
The Beavers will face Lehman in their first conference match up of the new year on Sunday, January 3. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
