Men's Basketball Falls In Final Seconds To John Jay

The City College of New York men's basketball team fell 60-58 in the final seconds against John Jay on Tuesday evening.

CCNY (4-3, 1-2 CUNYAC) started the game off on a hot streak. The Beavers scored the first nine points to take an early 9-0 lead. John Jay (1-7, 1-2 CUNYAC), looking for their first victory, fought hard to come back from behind nine. The Bloodhounds fought hard to get the lead and tied the game 18-18. John Jay then took the lead and continued to lead for the entirety of the half. The Beavers went into the locker room down 28-26.

Will Rhodes led the Beavers with six points and five rebounds at the half. CCNY shot .294 from the field and held the Bloodhounds to a .258 field goal percentage.

John Jay came out of the locker room on a mission to pick up their first victory of the season. The Bloodhounds were able to hold their lead until the Beavers tied the game 49-49. The final minutes of the game were spent with both teams going back-and-forth with the lead.

With 21 seconds left, the Beavers tied the score 58-58 on two free-throws. With 2.8 seconds left John Jay took a 60-58 lead. After a timeout, the Beavers had possession of the ball and drew up a play for a buzzer-beater. Unfortunately, the shot was missed and John Jay took the game 60-58.

Khalil Hamer led the Beavers with 16 points, while Mark Richards added 10. Rhodes tallied nine rebounds in the loss. The Beavers shot .313 from the field during the game.

The Beavers continue their home stand on Friday, December 11 against Hunter College. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
