The City College of New York men's basketball team used a second half rally to defeat Hunter 72-66 on Friday night.
City (5-3, 2-2 CUNYAC) took a quick lead to start off the conference matchup. Hunter (0-9, 0-3 CUNYAC) fought hard as they looked for their first victory on the season. While the first half was close, CCNY held the lead 20-18. Hunter fought hard and eventually took the lead and continued to hold that lead for the entirety of the first half. City went into the locker room down 32-38 at the half.
Will Rhodes led the Beavers with eight points, while
Robbie Dionisio led with seven rebounds. City shot .371 from the field in the first half, but was unable to stop Hunter as they shot .412 from the field.
Hunter came into the second half strong as they battled to take their first season victory. City knew they had to come back and pick up another conference victory on the season. The second half proved to be a battle for both teams. City finally took the lead in the last minutes of the game and held on for the victory. The Beavers out shot the Hawks 40-28 in the second half.
Mark Richards led the Beavers with 17 points, while Rhodes added 14. Dionisio finished the game with 11 rebounds. City shot .355 from the field and held Hunter to a .369 field goal percentage.
The Beavers will face St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) on Tuesday, December 29 at 3 p.m. The game will take place at Nat Holman Gymnasium
