The City College of New York women's basketball team held off John Jay in the final seconds of the game to win 52-49.

The Beavers (4-2, 2-1 CUNYAC) started off the first quarter looking to make a statement in the conference matchup. John Jay (2-5, 0-3 CUNYAC) wasn't far behind City during the first half. Both teams competed for the lead in the first quarter. CCNY was leading 10-9 to start the second quarter.

City figured out the flow of the game and was able to take advantage of opportunities in the second quarter. The Bloodhounds put up a fight to keep the game close. City outscored John Jay 15-13 in the second quarter. The Beavers had a 25-22 lead going into the locker room.

Liz Durchhalter led the Beavers with nine points, while Tiara Brown led with six rebounds at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Beavers went on a hot streak. City continued to hold the advantage, but John Jay would not give up that easily. City dominated in the third quarter and outscored the Bloodhounds 17-10.

John Jay took control in the fourth quarter as they searched for their first conference victory. The Beavers fought hard to hold off the Bloodhounds. Within the final seconds, John Jay was within two-points. The Bloodhounds had control of the ball down three points with four seconds left. City held off John Jay as they defeated them 52-49.

Debra Chan led the Beavers with 10 points, while Durchhalter added nine. Tiara Brown grabbed 16 rebounds in the victory.

The Beavers face Hunter College on Friday, December 11 at 5 p.m. The game will take place at Nat Holman Gymnasium.
