The City College of New York men's soccer team picks up their first conference victory of the season with a 5-1 win over York at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, New York.
CCNY (3-2-0, 1-0-0 CUNYAC) struck first with a goal from
Lanfia Diaby. Diaby scored off of a corner kick. It was not long before York (0-5-1, 0-1-0 CUNYAC) tied up the match with a goal from Oscar Rojas.
Kenan Redzematovic was the next Beaver to put one on goal with the assist from Diaby. Redzematovic's goal would end up being the game-winner, but City did not stop there. The score was 2-1 in City's favor as the Beavers went to the half.
The second half proved to be a battle for both teams as they fought for more shots for the chance to win the match. Redzematovic scored two goals in the second half to notch his first career hat-trick with assists from
Abdul Abdulai and
Augustine Amissah, respectfully.
Luis Castillo added one more for CCNY, from Diaby, for the Beavers to take the match 5-1.
CCNY took 13 shots with nine ending up on goal.
Marcus De Pompeis got his first collegiate start in goal and came up with four big saves to hold on for a victory.
The team will travel to Upper Montclair, New Jersey on Monday September 21 to face Montclair State University at 8 p.m.
