City College of New York women's basketball team defeated Baruch 59-56 on Friday evening. This win snaps a 31-game losing streak the Beavers had agaisnt Baruch.
Baruch (6-7, 5-3 CUNYAC) started the game off with the first basket, but City (9-7, 4-3 CUNYAC) quickly responded with a bucket. City went up on a five-point lead, but Baruch responded and took the lead back. Once Baruch regained control they did not let up and took a 17-10 lead after the first quarter.
The Bearcats continued to keep the game in their control, but City turned it on in the second quarter. They made big stops and caused turnovers from the Bearcats. City outscored Baruch 18-14 in the second quarter, but still trailed 28-31 going into halftime.
City scored 17 points off of the Bearcats turnovers. CCNY shot 25.6 percent from the field, while Baruch shot 32.3 percent.
Debra Chan led the Beavers with six points at the half, while
Tiara Brown had recorded seven boards in the first half.
CCNY came into the third quarter with a fire. They were able to slow down the Bearcats and take the lead back. City outscored the Bearcats 18-9 in the third quarter, the lowest points for an opponent in the third quarter this season.
The score remained close for the fourth quarter. Baruch and CCNY battled for the CUNYAC victory to help as we get closer to the end of the regular season. While, City was outscored 13-16 in the fourth quarter, they used points off of turnovers and free-throws to help them gain the advantage for the win.
Tiara Brown picked up her 11th double-double of the season with 11 points and a tied season-high 18 rebounds.
Liz Durchhalter added a team-high 12 points in the victory.
Robin Daley had four steals, two blocks and three assists in the victory.
Up next for City is Brooklyn College on January 20. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
