The City College of New York women's basketball defeated York College 82-38 on Friday evening as
Tiara Brown notched her first career triple-double.
City (11-7, 6-3 CUNYAC) started the game off on a 10-0 run. York (4-14, 2-8 CUNYAC) started to chip away at the lead, but CCNY would not let the Cardinals take advantage. City had a comfortable 19-12 lead going into the second quarter.
It looked like the Cardinals might start making a comeback, but City quickly capitalized off of York turnovers to keep them leading. The Beavers outscored the Cardinals 18-10 in the second quarter. At the buzzer,
Robin Daley hit a three to take a 37-22 lead going into the locker room.
City shot an impressive 43.8 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from behind the arc. The Beavers held York to a 23.5 percent field goal percentage.
Erika Richards led the Beavers with 11 points and
Tiara Brown led with five rebounds.
CCNY came out strong in the third quarter as they continued to control the conference matchup. City held York to only nine points in the third quarter as they scored 23. It was a strong second half for the Beavers in the game.
Going into the fourth quarter the Beavers held a comfortable 60-31 lead. As the time was winding down, Brown only needed assists to reach her first career triple-double and found every opportunity to set players up for a basket. The Beavers dominated in the final quarter as they outscored the Cardinals 22-7.
Brown's triple-double came off of 12 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Richards led the Beavers with 15 points, while
Natasha Almonacy added 14. The Beavers shot 46.4 percent for the field on the game, while holding York to 19.3 field goal percentage.
City travels to Hunter on Wednesday, January 27 for a CUNYAC matchup. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
