Beavers Rout Hunter

The City College of New York women's basketball team defeated Hunter College 58-34 on Wednesday evening at the Hunter College Sportsplex in New York, New York.

CCNY (12-7, 7-3 CUNYAC) started the game off on a 4-0 run, but the Hawks (6-12, 3-7 CUNYAC) cut the lead 8-7. The Beavers then took control and left the Hawks scoreless in the last three minutes of the first quarter. City scored 11 on during that stretch of time to take a 19-7 lead.

The Beavers continued on their run to start the second quarter and held a 23-7 advantage. City dominated in the second quarter and left the Hawks with only four points added, which is the lowest points scored by an opponent in the second quarter this season. CCNY took a comfortable 28-11 lead as they headed to the locker room.

City shot .297 from the field, while holding Hunter to a .188 field goal percentage.

As was with the start of the first two quarters, City started the third on a 4-0 run. CCNY held onto the lead, but Hunter went on a 7-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to a 36-23 Beaver lead. The Beavers stayed in control and led 40-26 going into the final quarter.

Hunter continued to hold themselves in the game and brought the score to 47-30 with seven minutes to play, but the Beavers had other plans. City went on a 7-0 run to take a 23-point lead up 53-30 with just over five minutes to play. As Hunter fought in the final minutes, there was nothing they could do to stop the Beavers. City took the game 58-34.

Tiara Brown notched her 13th double-double of the season with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Erika Richards added 16 points for the Beavers, while Marissa Olsen recorded a season-high nine boards. City caused Hunter to commit 26 turnovers, which is the most by an opponent this season and then turned those turnovers into 20 points.

CCNY finished the game shooting .323 from the field and holding the Hawks to a .182 field goal percentage, which is also the lowest field goal percentage by an opponent this season. CCNY has held their last two opponents to under a .200 field goal percentage.
