Women's Basketball Drops Conference Game To CSI

The City College of New York women's basketball team fell 57-69 to the College of Staten Island on Tuesday night. 

City (6-6, 2-3 CUNYAC) started the game off strong and looked to quickly take advantage against their conference foe. CSI (8-5, 4-1 CUNYAC) put up a strong first quarter, but CCNY was able to hold them off. City recorded 19 points in the first quarter to take a four point lead going into the second quarter.

The Dolphins quickly started the second quarter on a roll. The Beavers lost their lead, but kept the game close as they battled. City was outscored 24-12 in the second quarter and went into the locker room trailing 31-39. 

City was 11-for-29 for a .379 field goal percentage in the first half, but it could not match up to the Dolphins .457 field goal percentage. 

In the third quarter, CSI continued to add to their lead. While City tried to chip away at the lead, the Dolphins made some big plays to take a big 55-37 lead going into the final quarter. 

City completely turned their game around in the fourth quarter and took control. The Beavers chipped away at CSI's lead and continued to make big plays to keep them within reach of the win. While, the Dolphins tried to hold onto their lead in the final minutes, City outscored CSI 20-14 in the fourth quarter. Even with a big 20-point quarter, City was unable to catch up to the Dolphins as they took the game 69-57.

Tiara Brown picked up a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Brown also dished out a team-high five assists and recorded four steals. Natasha Almonacy added eight points for the Beavers, while Robin Daley tallied eight boards. 

The Beavers continue with conference play as they face Medgar Evers on Friday, January 8. The game is set for 5 p.m. in Nat Holman Gymnasium.
