The City College of New York women's basketball team picked up another conference victory with a 62-52 win over Medgar Evers.
City (7-6, 3-3 CUNYAC) came out of the gate strong when
Liz Durchhalter hit a three. Medgar Evers (0-13, 0-6 CUNYAC) followed by making one free-throw and then CCNY took control. The Beavers went on a 10-0 run to take a strong 13-1 lead early in the game. The Cougars only scored off of free throws in the first quarter. City held the Cougars to the lowest points allowed in the first quarter this season. CCNY led 18-4 after the first quarter.
Medgar Evers turned their game around in the second quarter and started making some shots. City continued to take control of the game and knocked down points. It was a total team effort to keep them in the lead. City led 33-16 going into the locker room and was 6-1 this season when they led at half.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers with nine points at the half. Brown, Daley and Akridge all recorded seven boards. While City only shot .324 from the field they held Medgar Evers to a .156 field goal percentage.
The Beavers came out of the locker room on a roll looking for their third conference victory of the season. Medgar Evers continued to fight and keep themselves in the game. It was a back-and-forth game, but City outscored the Cougars 24-12 in the third quarter.
Medgar Evers turned the game around in the fourth quarter and took control. In the final 10 minutes of the game, the Cougars were able to make big stops and put themselves within an arms length of the Beavers. City was outscored in the final quarter but still took the game 62-52.
Brown was one rebound shy of a double-double as she tallied nine rebounds and 14 points.
Liz Durchhalter tied her career-high 15 points in the victory. The team shot .324 from the field and .400 from behind the arc. They scored 26 points off of Medgar Ever's 20 turnovers.
The Beavers continue their homestand and face Misercordia on Sunday, January 10 at 2 p.m.
