No. 14 Hunter Sweeps Men's Volleyball

The City College of New York men's volleyball team was swept 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-20) by the No. 14 ranked Hunter College.

Going up against a conference team would be tough enough, but the young Beavers squad also had to go up against a ranked conference team. City started out strong as they played evenly with the tough Hawks. Hunter took the first significant lead of the first set when they went on a 3-0 run to go up 8-5. The Hawks would continue to add onto the lead, while CCNY fought hard. Hunter came out strong and quick taking the first set 25-12.

In set two, City started the same way they started the first set. It was a close set, but again Hunter took an 8-5 lead. CCNY chipped away at the lead slowly, but to no avail as the Hawks proved to be a tough foe. The Beavers continued to fight and make stops but fell in the second set 25-17.

City came out in the third set looking to stop the Hawks, while Hunter was looking to put away another victory. CCNY took a 9-5 advantage, but Hunter chipped away at the lead. The Beavers held onto the lead for most of the third set, until the score was tied 15-15. It was at that point that Hunter sealed their victory. It would be a hard fought third set for the Beavers but eventually they would fall and Hunter took the third set and match with a 25-20 victory.

Edmund He led the Beavers with 10 kills, while the team totaled 18 kills. Oleksandr Boychuck dished out 14 assists in the loss. Sebastjano Aga led when he recorded seven digs for CCNY.

City will host New Jersey City University in their first home match of the season on Thursday, February 11. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
