Third Quarter Surge Propels Women's Basketball Over John Jay

The City College of New York women's basketball team used a huge third quarter surge to pick up a 62-42 victory over John Jay on Friday evening. The Beavers improve to 15-8 overall and 10-4 in conference play.
City started off game on a 4-0 run, but John Jay followed that up with a quick basket. The score would remain close in the first quarter, but CCNY would never give up their lead. City would hold a 15-12 lead going into the second quarter.
The Beavers went on a 6-1 run to take a 21-13 lead early in the second quarter. It would not be that easy as the Bloodhounds fought hard for the victory. The Bloodhounds spent the second quarter chipping away at the Beaver lead. City would remain in control and hold a 27-21 lead going into the locker room.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers with eight points at the half, while Taylor Pompilio added six. Four of Pompilio's points would come off of her shooting four-for-four from the charity stripe. Brown also led with nine rebounds.
City hoped their 13-1 advantage when leading at the half would help push them to a victory over the Bloodhounds. CCNY shot .357 from the field and a perfect 1.000 from the free throw line in the first half.
CCNY started the third quarter taking a 31-24 lead. City proved to be a force to be reckoned with in CUNYAC play. The Beavers out scored the Bloodhounds 26-6 in the third quarter and had a comfortable 53-27 lead going into the fourth quarter.
City continued to add to the lead in the fourth quarter despite John Jays best efforts. The Bloodhounds out scored the Beavers 15-9 in the fourth quarter but that would not be enough as City won 62-42.
Brown notched her 16th double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Erika Richards recorded 12 points in the victory.
City was a perfect 13-for-13 from the charity stripe, while they shot .365 from the field.
The Beavers return home for the final game on Sunday, February 14. City will recognize Taylor Pompilio, Tiara Brown, Robin Daley and Myrriah McIntosh in a pregame ceremony that is set for 11:50am.
