The City College of New York women's basketball team fell 69-58 to Lehman College on Sunday afternoon. With this loss the Beavers fall to 15-9, 10-5 CUNYAC while Lehman improves to 18-6, 13-2 CUNYAC.
Lehman went off on a quick 7-0 run to start the game. City would not let them run away with the game as they fought back and went on a 6-0 run to trail 7-6. The Lightning remained in control but the Beavers fought hard for the lead and remained close. Lehman took off in the final minutes of the first quarter to take a 21-13 lead.
Lehman started the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 28-13 lead. Turnovers would be the downfall of both teams during the first half of the game, but Lehman was able to capitalize off them that helped them remain in control. CCNY was outscored 18-9 in the second quarter. The Lightning led 39-22 at the half.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers at the half with eight points and five rebounds. City shot .273 from the field while Lehman shot .424. City's 20 turnovers turned into 18 points for the Lightning, while the Beavers turned Lehman turnovers to only eight points.
City, like they have many times this season, turned on their jets in the third quarter. They found ways to stop Lehman and cut the deficit. City came back and trailed by only three, but Lehman went on a 9-3 run to end the quarter to take a 55-46 lead. City outscored Lehman 24-16 in the third quarter
The fourth quarter was evenly matched as the two teams tried to play for a victory. It was a lot of back-and-forth action between the conference foes. City attempted to make a comeback, but Lehman would not give up and took the game 69-58.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers with 21 points, while
Erika Richards tallied 17. The Beavers shot .324 from the field while Lehman shot .421.
The Beavers will travel for their final game of the 2016 regular season on Tuesday, February 16. The Beavers will face Medgar Evers at 5 p.m.
