Box Score The City College of New York women's basketball team finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 70-54 victory over Medgar Evers. The Beavers improved to 16-9, 11-5 CUNYAC, while Medgar Evers fell to 2-23, 2-14 CUNYAC.
The first quarter consisted of a lot of back-and-forth action as the Cougars looked to push their way into the CUNYAC postseason tournament. City looked to continue their winning season as they fought hard to take a quick advantage. It would be an even first quarter as the CUNYAC foes went to finish the regular season on top. City led 14-10 after the first quarter.
Medgar Evers looked to just pick up their third win on the season with a huge second quarter. City would continue to play their game, but were unable to hold off the Cougars. The Beavers were outscored 20-12 in the second quarter. CCNY trailed 30-26 at the half. It would turn out that this would be just the second time this season the Beavers would win after trailing at the half.
Like with most games this season, CCNY turned on the jets in the third quarter. They dominated on both offense and defense as they held the Cougars to just eight points. It would be a huge turnaround and run-away for City. City led 49-38 going into the final quarter.
City would continue their hot second half of the game in the fourth quarter. Medgar Evers was able to get back into the game, but it would not be enough. City wanted to go into the postseason with a victory and held on enough to take the 70-54 victory.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers with 20 points, while
Erika Richards and
Liz Durchhalter added 13 a piece. Richards grabbed nine boards in the victory. Brown tied her career-high five steals for City. Richards and Brown both dished out four assists for CCNY.
Sitting as the four-seed, City gets a bye to the second round and will host the winner of the first round. The second round game will take place on Sunday, February 21 in Nat Holman Gymnasium.
