Falcons Sweep Men's Volleyball

City College of New York men's volleyball team was swept 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-22) by Albertus Magnus on Sunday morning in New Haven, Connecticut. The Beavers fall to 2-9 overall while the Falcons improved to a 3-2 record.

Albertus Magnus started off with a quick 3-1 lead in the first set. The Beavers were not far behind as they continued to keep the set close and tie it up 4-4. It would be an exchange of points between the non-conference foes until CCNY took a 20-15 lead. It would not be for long as the Falcons went on a 6-0 run behind the serving of Jeremy Ortiz to give them a 21-20 lead. City stayed close but fell 25-23 in the first set.

The Falcons continued their advantage from the first set in the second set. Albertus Magnus took a 9-3 lead as City fought to come back. CCNY chipped away at the lead bit-bit, but was unable to gain an advantage. The Falcons continued to dominate in the second set and took a 25-14 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

CCNY would keep the third set close like they did in the first set. The score would be tied 6-6 and would be both teams going back-and-forth with points for the next couple of serves. It was until after it was tied 20-20 that either team took a clear lead. Albertus struck first and took a 22-20 lead that City would not be able to un-do. They would fight hard and off of two kills would their points up to 22, but it would not be enough as Albertus took the third set and match 25-22.

Edmund He led the Beavers with 14 kills, while Sebastjano Aga added nine. Aga led City with 11 digs and three service aces. Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 24 assists. Both Ejil Patano and David Cham recorded a solo block on the match.

CCNY will travel to face CUNYAC opponent, Medgar Evers on Thursday, February 25. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
