The City College of New York women's basketball team dominated Baruch College 75-42 on Tuesday evening. The Beavers led the whole entire game as they picked up their 14th victory of the season.
City (14-8, 9-4 CUNYAC) took off on a 5-0 run. Baruch (10-12, 9-5 CUNYAC) picked up a basket, but then CCNY took control. The Beavers were up by eight points when the first quarter clocked wound down. City led 16-8 and had already scored eight points off of Baruch turnovers.
The Bearcats took the first basket to start off the second quarter, but CCNY went on a huge 14-0 run to take a 30-10 lead. The Beavers continued strong in the second quarter and went into the locker room up 40-15. They allowed Baruch only seven points in the second quarter.
CCNY continued to fight for a victory as the regular season winds down to an end, but Baruch came into the second half strong. Try as they might, the Beavers would not give up the lead and continued to add on for a comfortable cushion. The Bearcats scored 14 points in the third quarter, but City remained in control holding onto a 58-29 lead.
With only 10 minutes left before the Beavers would be able to put another victory underneath their belts, City continued to dominate. Baruch fought, but the Beavers defense in the first half proved to be the deciding factor in the game. City took the game 75-42.
Tiara Brown led the Beavers with 28 points, while
Erika Richards added 13.
Natasha Almonacy recorded 12 points in the victory.
Robin Daley had a team-high nine rebounds, while Brown tallied eight.
Marissa Olsen and Richards grabbed seven boards a piece. Daley also dished out a team-high seven assists, while
Taylor Pompilio had four steals for the Beavers.
City will travel to face John Jay in a CUNYAC tilt on Friday, February 12. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
