Men's Volleyball Swept In Non-Conference Contest

The City College of New York men's volleyball team was swept 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-17) by non-conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent.

The College of Mount Saint Vincent quickly took a 6-2 lead in the first set. While City battled and chipped away at the lead, the Dolphins would go on a 8-0 to take a huge 19-4 advantage. City did not give up and fought hard, but Mount Saint Vincent proved to be a tough opponent as they took the first set 25-10.

Again it would be the Dolphins that would take the advantage in the second set. City fought hard but was unable to stop Mount Saint Vincent. Trailing 9-3 early in the set, CCNY tried to turn the set around. They would be unable to slow down the Dolphins as they continued to add to the lead. With a 19-12 lead, Mount Saint Vincent took the next three points for a 22-12 lead. CCNY would be able to get some stops, but not in time as Mount Saint Vincent took the second set 25-15.

Mount Saint Vincent started the third set on a 4-0 run. However, this set would be very different from the other two. Behind the serving of Tommy Holzmacher, and with the held of three attack errors by the Dolphins, City tied the set 5-5. It would then be a back-and-forth set between the non-conference opponents. After the score was tied again 9-9, the Dolphins took off in pursuit of a three-set victory. Mount Saint Vincent took a 13-9 lead, a lead they would not give up. City chipped away at the lead, but it would be too late. Mount Saint Vincent took the third and final set 25-17.

Sebastjano Aga recorded seven kills, while David Cham and Holzmacher tallied six and five, respectively. Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 19 assist and tallied a team-high seven digs.

City is back in action on Saturday, March 26 at the travel to York College for the final CUNYAC multi-matches of the season. First, City will take on Hunter College followed by Brooklyn College. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
