The City College of New York baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to No. 9 Shenandoah. First, City was defeated 10-1 and then fell 4-1.
Game OneNo. 9 Shenandoah got the game started right in the first inning. After the Beavers went three up, three down in the top of the first the Hornets got their turn. It would be two hits that would get one across and give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
City would go three up, three down in the first three innings as they faced Shenandoah ace, Scimanico. In that time, Shenandoah would only put one more run on the board for a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Michael Siklas doubled to left center. He would make it to third on a wild pitch, but was unable to make around to bring in a run for the Beavers. The Hornets had one run off of only one hit in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead.
The fifth and sixth inning would be similar for City as they were unable to get a hit off of the Hornets. Shenandoah put on two runs in the fourth and had a big fifth inning where they recorded five runs.
Going into the final inning, Shenandoah led 10-0.
Ariel Xavier Torres reached base on an error by the shortstop and moved to second when
Uche Nwokelo was hit by a pitch. Torres stole third and when
Sadar Khanbilvardi singled through the left side he brought Torres in for the Beavers first run of the game. That would be the only run for City as they fell 10-1 in game one.
Jeffrey Diaz pitched five innings for CCNY. He recorded one strikeout, walked two and gave up five runs off of nine hits.
Anthony Sautter who came in for 1.0 inning tallied two strikeouts, and gave up five runs off of four hits.
Scimanico of Shenandoah recorded 15 strikeouts in his six innings pitched. Tyler Hott, who came in for relief for the Hornets, gave up one run that was unearned off of two hits. He also recorded one strikeout.
Game TwoSiklas started the game off with his first collegiate homerun. The RBI was his second of the season and gave the Beavers an early 1-0 lead.
Shenandoah would be behind for long as they put up two runs in the bottom of the first and held onto a 2-1 lead.
In the second inning, the Hornets would put two more runs on the board for a 4-1 lead.
The Beavers would continue to battle and would record five hits during the seven innings played, but Siklas's homerun would be the only run for CCNY.
Sacha Urbach pitched five innings for City. He recorded three strikeouts, while he gave up four runs, only two of which were earned, off of four hits.
Cal Romano would enter in relief for one inning and would only give up one hit.
The Beavers will face Shenandoah in their final game of the series on Sunday, March 6 at 1 p.m.
