Men's Volleyball Splits at CUNYAC Multimatch

The City College of New York men's volleyball team split on the day at the CUNYAC Multi-match held at Hunter College.First, they fell in three sets 25-12, 25-9, 25-10 to Baruch College. Then they defeated Medgar Evers 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-15). 

Match One (vs. Baruch)
It was Baruch right from the start that took control of the match. In the first set they would show their strength. The Beavers gave their best effort and kept it close at the beginning, but the Bearcats would dominate. Baruch would take the first set off of a .529 attack percentage. 

The second set was similar to the first where Baruch took control early. CCNY fought hard and would not give up, but the veteran Bearcats would remain in control. Baruch had a .565 attack percentage in the second set went up 2-0 with a 25-9 victory. 

CCNY would not give up easily as Baruch tried to take the third set and match. It would be a battle to begin with, but City was unable to stop the Bearcats. Baruch took the third set and match 25-10.

Sebastjano Aga led the Beavers with five kills, while Edmund He added three. Oleksandr Boychuk dished out eight assists for City. CCNY tallied 13 digs and three total blocks. 

Match Two (vs. Medgar Evers)
It was a close set as the two CUNYAC opponents fought for a victory at Hunter College. City took control first and was up 7-3. The Beavers would go on a 6-0 run to take a 13-4 advantage over the Cougars. CCNY would continue to dominate and quickly took the first set 25-10. 

The Cougars would start with the lead in the second set as they quickly went up 4-2 over the Beavers. It would not be for long as City turned the set around and took a 9-5 advantage. The set would remain close as both teams battled back-and-forth, but City remained on top. CCNY would take the second set 25-21. 

In set three, the teams would battle back-and-forth to start, but again, it would be the Beavers that would take the first advantage. Leading 7-4, City would not look back from the lead on their way to victory. City would dominate in the final points of the set as they went on a 7-0 to take a 24-14 lead. While Medgar took the next point, it would be City who would clinch the final set point to take the match from Medgar Evers.

Sebastjano Aga led the Beavers with 13 kills, while Edmund He added eight. Both Aga and He tallied a team-high five digs in the victory. Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 24 assists for City. CCNY recorded a .208 attack percentage against the Cougars. 

Up next the Beavers will travel to face CUNYAC opponent York College on Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
