The City College of New York men's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-27, 25-12, 25-15, 25-15) to York College on Tuesday night. City dropped to 6-11, 5-6 CUNYAC play, while York improved to 9-11, 7-4 CUNYAC.
York started the first set off with the first three points, but it would not be for long as the Beavers brought themselves right into the set. Both teams exchanged points back-and-forth as both looked for a lead. The Cardinals would take a two-point lead, but City always came back and tied it up. York went up 25-24, but CCNY tied it 25-25 with a kill from
Sebastjano Aga. The Beavers took the first set 27-25 when York had two attack errors.
The Cardinals quickly bounced back from the first set and took off on a 7-4 lead in the second set. City chipped away at the lead. It would bring them closer, but York remained in control with a 13-9 advantage. CCNY remained in the second set but trailed 22-12. The Cardinals then went on a 3-0 run to take the second set 25-12.
The third set started similar to the first set where it was back-and-forth exchange of points. It would be York that would take the lead 13-9. City fought hard to get right back into the set, but York continue to add to their lead. York took the third set 25-15.
In what would be the final set, the Cardinals started on a 6-0 run. It would be a slow start for the Beavers as York continued their roll onto victory with a 12-3 lead. City got themselves back into the set and starting making strides to slow down the Cardinals, but it would be too late. York had control of the set and took the final set and victory with a 25-15 win.
Aga led the Beavers with an impressive 31 kills, his second most in a match on the season.
Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 31 assists for CCNY. The team recorded a .143 attack percentage.
City will play host to CUNYAC opponent Lehman College on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
