The City College of New York baseball team was shutout 2-0 by NYU on Friday evening. City falls to 3-22 on the season, while NYU improves to 8-13.
Steven Giglio started on the mound for the Beavers. He would pitch five innings and give up just two runs, along with one strike out.
After going three up, three down in the first and leaving two on base in the second, City gave up their first run of the game. NYU scored one run off of two hits to take an early 1-0 lead.
CCNY didn't record a hit until the fifth inning when
Uche Nwokelo would single to center field. The Beavers would not be able to bring him in as the Violets pitching remained solid. NYU would score another run in the bottom of the fifth for a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth, it looked like CCNY might get things going as
Michael Siklas and
Adrian Pena had back-to-back hits. However, the inning would end before City could get anyone across.
City gave it another try in the seventh starting with
Elmy Antonio leading off with a base hit. He would get around the bases, but would be caught out at home plate. City was unable to get a Beaver in for a run.
Both teams would be held hit-less in the final innings as NYU took game one of the three-game series 2-0.
Jeffrey Diaz and
Joseph DeCarlo both came in for relief for CCNY. Together, Diaz and DeCarlo left the Violets hit-less in the final three innings.
City will continue their three-game series against the Violets on Saturday, April 2 with a double-header. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
