Match One (vs. Bard)While City claimed the first point of the first set off a kill by
Tommy Holzmacher, Bard fought back and took the next four. CCNY would not let them run away that easily and brought it to an 8-8 tie. CCNY was able to tie the match, but it always seemed like Bard would take the advantage in the first set. With the score tied 18-18, Bard went on a 4-0 run to take a 22-18 lead. From there they would take the first set 25-20.
The second set had many similarities to the first set as City fought hard from the first serve. It would be a close set as the teams battled it out for a victory. With Bard holing onto a 14-9 lead, City took the next point to cut the deficit to just four points. However, Bard had other plans and took a 17-10 lead. City was able to chip away at the lead little by little, but it would be too late as Bard took the second set 25-20.
As was with the first two sets, the third set would be no different. Both teams battled for the advantage and neither would falter as points were exchanged in the beginning. Bard took a slight 12-9 lead and it was at the point they sealed their victory. City would slow down Bard and cut the deficit to just 20-18, but it would not be enough. Bard took the third set and match with a 25-20 victory.
Sebastjano Aga led the Beavers with 14 kills, while Holzmacher added seven.
Oleksandr Boychuk dished out 22 assists for City and led the team with nine digs.
Match Two (vs. Marymount)After starting the first set tied 3-3, Marymount started to dominate. Marymount went on a 5-0 run for a 8-3 lead. City continued to fight, but attack errors would doom the Beavers. CCNY was only seven points off the lead trailing 14-7. However, that would be the last point City scored in the first set. Marymount went on a dominating 11-0 run to take the first set 25-7.
City would start again and come out strong in the second set. However, Marymount proved to be a tough opponent and continued their dominace from the first set. Holding onto a 14-6 lead, City knew they had to make some big stops to get back into the set. The Beavers chipped away at the lead and trailed just 19-16. Marymount made their final push though and took a 23-16 lead. City fell in the set set 25-17.
CCNY started the third set with three straight points. It would not be long before Marymount took the lead, but City would not go down easily. Gaining an advantage off of Marymount attack errors, the Beavers tied the set 11-11. Marymount would just be able to keep a slight lead over CCNY. With the score 23-19 City fought hard. With a kill from Holzmacher the Beavers trailed 23-20. However a service error and attack error by the Beavers gave Marymount the set and match 25-20.
Holzmacher led the Beavers with nine kills, while Aga added five. Aga led the team with 11 digs, while Boychuk dished out 16 assists.
