New York, NY - Despite 28 points from Alexis Akridge, City College women's basketball team had a spirited comeback fall short in a 88-76 loss to Lehman College on Wednesday night.
Akridge posted her fifth double-double of the season, with her 28-points and 11-rebounds. Debra Chan had a big game with 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting from 3-point range. Elizabeth Zullo had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Beavers were 9-for-20 (45.percent) on 3-point shots and had assists on 23 of their 26 made field goals. CCNY also had a 45-36 margin in rebounds.
CCNY trailed 25-18 after the opening quarter and the game stayed close in the second quarter. The Mules led 32-26 after an inside basket by Driscoll, but the Eagles used an 11-2 run the rest of the way to go up 37-34 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Beavers would out score Lehman 27-to-19, to bring the game within four points 64-60.
In the fourth quarter, turnovers and missed opportunities would hurt CCNY chances of a comeback upset over Lehman. Lehman take the game 88-to-76.
The City College Women's Basketball team is now is 7-10 overall and 3-6 in conference play this season. The team will play the College of Staten Island next at home on Friday (Jan. 20) at 5:00pm.
