CCNY MBB Held Off By Rutgers-Camden, 68-65

New York, NY - The City College men's basketball team lost its second-straight game on Monday as they fell to Rutgers University-Camden, 68-65 in a game played at home.  The team is now 9-8 on the season.

CCNY's largest lead of the first half was nine-points (34-25), after a layup from Salvatore Palazzolo. The Beavers held the lead going into halftime, 36-33. 

CCNY held a short lead beginning second half.  Rutgers-Camden finally took the lead (12:15) with a layup from Isaac Destin to put the team up 47-45.  A David Solano three-pointer (11:07) would help the lavender and black regain the lead (50-49).

Foul calls and missed shot opportunities would help the Raptors climb back into the game and a take a one-point lead (57-56) with under seven minutes remaining. 

With 1:29 left, David Solano hit two key free throws to bring the game within two-points for the Beavers. After a CCNY foul, the Raptors connected on one of two free throws to hold a three point lead with 13 seconds left.

Rutgers would a foul, sending Khalil Hamer to free throw line. Hamer would make both shots to bring the game within one point (66-65) with eight second on the clock. But CCNY would commit a costly foul with 5 second left, allowing the Raptors to make a pair of free throws. CCNY had a last chance buzzer beating shot opportunity but failed to convert the shot.

In the game Robbie Dionisio had a team high 18 points and six rebounds for the Beavers, while Khalil Hamer pitched in with 16 points three rebounds, three assist and two steals. Mark Richards ended with 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. David Solano posted 10-points and three rebounds. Salvatore Palazzolo added six points and four rebounds off the bench. 

The City College Men's Basketball team is now improves to 9-8 overall this season. The team will return to conference play on Wednesday on the road against John Jay College  at 7:00pm.
