New York, NY – The City College Women's Basketball began the New Year on the right foot, earning their first conference victory Wednesday night over John Jay College, 68-47. Three CCNY players scored in double figures.
The Lavender and Black lead after the first quarter 22-20. Going into halftime CCNY held a four point lead (34-30).
In the third quarter the Beavers led by 12-points early in the quarter (8:08). John Jay brought the game within two points (40-42) after going on a 10-0 run. CCNY closed out the quarter scoring six straight points (40-46).
The Beavers started the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, jumping to a 58-40 lead. The Beavers largest lead came after a layup from Erika Richards which put the team up by 22-points (67-45).
In the game, four player's finished in double-figures for CCNY. Senior Erika Richards finished the game totaling 25 points and nabbed four steals. Elizabeth Zullo ended the game with 11-points and three assists. Marissa Olsen added six points, nine boards and two steals. Erica Redwood made her second start of the season, scoring six points and grabbed nine rebounds. Shakirra Smith played well the bench with 14-points, five rebounds and five steals, while Debra Chan started the game and finshed with six points.
The City College Women's Basketball team is now improves to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in conference play this season. The team will play Brooklyn College next at home on Friday (Jan. 6) at 5:00pm.
