CCNY WBB Shines Against Baruch

New York, NY – The City College of New York women's basketball made a statement early Tuesday evening, toppling the Baruch College Bearcats by a final score of 74-54.  

Junior Ashley Brooks recorded her fifth double-digit rebound effort, finishing the contest with a game-high 21 boards; 14 of them offensive. Brooks also scored 20 points, collecting her fourth double-double of the season.
 
Junior Debra Chan scored 20 points, shooting six-of-ten from beyond the arc. Freshman Madison LaSalle scored 12 points, hitting five-of-nine from the field.  Rookie Crystal Blair pulled down a career and season-high 18 rebounds in the win. Junior Corina Coles notched score 13 points, including three three-point fields goals.

The Lavender & Black came out gunning straight from the tip, hitting five of their first seven three-pointers to hold a 24-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.  The advantage stayed in the Beavers favor come halftime due to an impressive defensive effort in the second quarter.  The Bearcats shot just five-for-14 in the second frame, scoring just 15 total points.

CCNY led Baruch 43-25 at the halftime break.  The leader for the Beavers at the intermission was Brooks, who already had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. CCNY shot 50% from beyond the arc, hitting eight-of-16 from long range.

Over the course of the second half, the Lavender & Black dominated the paint and set the tempo defensively. The Beavers outrebounded the Bearcats 33-to-28 over the course of the final 20 minutes, in addition to holding Baruch to 32.4% shooting.

With the win, CCNY improves to 4-3 on the season, and 1-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.

The Beavers will return to action this Saturday, Dec. 9 when they tip off at 1 pm at the College of Staten Island Dolphins.
