CCNY Men's Basketball Tops Medgar Evers 102-80 On Senior Night

NEW YORK, NY - The City College men's basketball team reached its second highest point output of the season to top Medgar Evers 102-80 in City University of New York Athletic Conference action on Senior Day at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers closed out the 2016-17 regular season with a 12-4 mark in CUNYAC play and earned the No. 2 seed in next weekend's conference tournament hosted at CCNY. Prior to the game, CCNY honored its four seniors including Mark Richards, David Solano, Robbie Dionisio and Khalil Hamer

The CCNY Beavers began the first half putting up points in bunches. David Solano drained three three-pointer under two minutes into the game to give the Beavers a 13-4 lead. The teams rapid scoring would continue, scoring at will. CCNY would out score Medgar 32-9 in the first 10 minutes of the game to take a 23 point lead.

CCNY closed out half with a 51-42 lead over the Cougars heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Beavers lead grew to 18 points, after a layup from Brendan Hauser with 8:52 remaining in the contest.

The momentous catalyst of the contest came when senior Mark Richards hit a monstrous dunk to extend CCNY's  point total to triple digits (100-75) with 3:07 left in the game.

In their final regular season game at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, Mark Richards tied his career high of 25 points, while pulling in seven rebounds. 

Khalil Hamer finished the game in double-figures with 21 points on nine-of-10 free throw shooting. He also dished out six assists and grabbed two steals.

David Solano had a dominant first half scoring 17 of his 20 points in the game. He shot 6-of-14 from the field with five three-point field goals.

Robbie Dionisio picked up his sixth double-double of the season, ending with 12 points and 10 rebounds .

Junior Brendan Hauser finished with a season-high 12 points in 22 minutes of play.  

The Beavers held a 8-19 turnover margin, out rebounded (43-38) and held a 18-6 assist advantage over the Cougars in the win.

The City College men's basketball program will earn the #2 seed the CUNYAC basketball championships. The CCNY squad awaits an opponent in its semifinal matchup to be determined in the first round and second later this week. 

The teams semifinal game will be played on their home court at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on Wednesday February, 22. Tip off is set for 8:00pm.
