NEW YORK, NY - The City College of New York men's basketball team fell 77-66 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Championship game to the College of Staten Island at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. Seniors Khalil Hamer and Mark Richards each scored 16 points.
Seniors Khalil Hamer poured in 16 points and had seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Senior Mark Richards posted 16 points, nine rebounds season high five blocks. Senior David Solano and Junior Brendan Hauser had nine points, while both hitting three three pointers in the game. Robbie Dionisio ended with six points and eight rebounds. Hamer and Solano were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance in the Championship tournament.
CSI was led by senior Khaleeq Baum double double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Kevon Murphy had 20 points and nine rebounds, Senior Frank Schettino added 11 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
The Dolphins held a 43.8%-37.9% shooting advantage and 46-34 on the boards. The difference in the game was Staten Island's rebounding, holding a 46-34 rebounding advantage, while converting 22 second chance points in the game.
CCNY completes the 2016-17 campaign with a 17-10 overall mark. That record stands as the best overall record in program history since the historic City College team of 1949-50 team's record of 24-5. The 1949–50 CCNY Beavers team is the only team to win both the NIT and the NCAA Tournament in the same year.
