New York, NY - The City College of New York women's basketball team rallied from a nine-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to get past Bard College 62-58, Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
City College led Bard by two points (17-15) at the end of the first quarter
In the second quarter, CCNY stretched their lead by 12-points (31-19) after a layup from Erika Richards with under three minutes left in the half.
CCNY went into halftime with a 34-to-22 lead over Bard College.
In the third quarter, a early layup from Debra Chan gave the home team a 14-point lead (36-22) over the Raptors.
A Bucket from Bard's Alexis Akingbade helped the team close the gap and bring the game within four points to end the third quarter.
In the Fourth quarter, a trey from Bards Andra Moye (7:29) gave the Raptors their first lead since the opening minutes of the first quarter.
Three-pointers from Caleigh DeCaprio helped Bard build a nine-point (58-49) lead with 2:58 to go in the game.
With 2:28 left in the game, freshmen Elizabeth Zullo stepped up big for the CCNY. Zullo scored ten straight unanswered points to give CCNY a one point lead in the game with 1:11 remaining.
With two second left, CCNY would force Bard to turnover the ball and regain possession.
A Bard foul would send Debra Chan to the free throw line with a second left on the clock. Chan connected on both to push CCNY's lead to 61-to-58. Another Bard foul sent Erica Redwood to the free throw, hitting one of two to end the game 62-58.
Freshman Elizabeth Zullo lead the scoring for the Beavers with 15-points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds. Senior Alexis Akridge posted 11-points, five steals, four rebounds. Senior Erika Richards ended with 11-points, seven rebounds and two steals. Senior Marissa Olsen put up six points and six rebounds in the win.
The City College Women's Basketball team now improves to 10-13 overall. The team will play Hunter College next at home on Friday on Senior Night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 5:00pm. CCNY will honor seniors Alexis Akridge, Marissa Olsen and Erika Richards.
