CCNY Drops Doubleheader in Virginia

  • The Short Story: The City College baseball team was unable to overcome a strong nationally ranked Shenandoah University team as the Beavers dropped a double-header to the Hornets.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1

  • Shenandoah jumped out to an early lead in the game, scoring seven runs in the first inning. 
  • Jeffrey Diaz started the game out on the mound out as he gave up seven runs in one inning played.
  • Both Christian BarlettaJoe Bystrik and Stephen Peters came in for relief, pitching five total and combining for five strikeouts 
  • Offensively, CCNY struggled to the tune of nine strikeouts and ending with four hits in the game.
GAME 2
  • The second game was much like the first with the Hornets grabbing a early lead. 
  • Anthony Cacchione was tagged with his second  loss this season, while striking out two runners and giving up seven runs in 3.0 innings.
  • CCNY was able to get on the board in the seventh inning. Adrian Pena hit his first home run of the season, also bringing Anthony Cacchione home.
  • On the next at bat, Elmy Antonio singled to right field allowing both Stephen Peters and Anthony Sautter to score.
  • In the ninth innning, Pena would score on a passed ball.

  • CCNY will host the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the home opener for a single game on Tuesday, March 8th at 4 PM
