West Point, N.Y. – The City College of New York women's fencing team competed at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association Championships (NIWFA) over the weekend and finished 12th out of 17 teams.
In the team event standings, CCNY finished eighth in the Epee, eleventh in the Foil and sixteenth in the Sabre.
Senior Judine Watkis defeated Fiona Fong of Temple University (NCAA Division I) in the bonze medal round to earn a third place finish to receive all conference honors.
In the Epee preliminaries, Fama Ndiaye placed seventeenth in the "B" pool. She was 3-13 against the NIWFA competition. Sarah Dhanpaul finished fourteenth in the "C" pool, ending with a 4-12 record.
In the Foil preliminaries, Hannah Contreras placed thirteenth, going 4-12 in pool "A". Nemesis Perez registered a eighth place finish 9-7 record in pool "B". Ann-Renee Rubia took eleventh in pool "C" with a 7-9 mark.
In the preliminaries of the Sabre, Esmerlin Valerio took seventeenth with a record of 1-15 in the "A" pool. Kim Keblish finished seventeenth going 2-14 in pool "B" and Samah Islam place seventeenth in pool "C" with a 3-13 mark.
The Beavers will compete next at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships this weekend hosted at Yale University in New Haven, CT.
