CCNY Women's Fencing Earns Two Victories at the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational

Staten Island, NY - The City College of New York women's s fencing program competed on Sunday at the Brian Palestis Memorial Invitational, hosted by Wagner College at the Spiro Sports Center.

The Beavers earned two victories in five events at the tournament, defeating Yeshiva University and Hunter College.

vs. Wagner - Round One
In round one, CCNY's foil squad picked up four bout victories against Wagner. Freshmen Oumou Diallo and Simona Isakova each went 2-1.

vs. Yeshiva - Round Three
The Beavers picked up their first win of the day against Yeshiva, defeating the Maccabees 20-7. Sophomores Izel Rueda-Sierra and Karina Torres led Beavers in the sabre (8-1), finishing 3-0, while Heaven Castillo went 2-1 in the weapon. The Beavers swept Yeshiva in the Foil weapon (9-0). In the epee weapon, the Beavers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Maccabees. 

vs. Hunter - Round Four
The Beavers faced Hunter College in the fourth round, dowing the Hawks 16-11. CCNY defeated Hunter in the sabre (6-3), with  Rueda-Sierra, Torres, and  Castillo all going 2-1. The Beavers outlasted Hunter in the foil, 8-1. Hunter earned a 7-2 victory in the epee.

vs. Drew - Round Six
In round six, CCNY fell to drew, 24-3. The Beavers earned two bout win in the foil weapon and one in the sabre.

vs. Lafayette College - Round Seven
In the seventh and final round, CCNY fell to Lafayette College 23-4. The Beavers snatch three victories in the sabre, and one in the foil.

Next, the CCNY women's fening program returns to competition on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the FDU Invitational.
