New York, NY - After opening the day with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-12) victory over the York College Cardinals, the CCNY women's volleyball team closed the day with a 3-0 (14-25, 10-25, 18-25) setback to the Hunter College Hawks. The two matches were part of a CUNYAC Tri-Match hosted by CCNY.
Match One
Freshman
Yana Shaposhnikova and senior
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai and junior
Camila Franco-Diaz led the Lavender & Black in the opener vs. the Cardinals combining for 16 kills. Shaposhnikova collected six kills, 12 aces and a total 18 points in the match. Franco-Diaz finished with five kills, three aces, and 12 digs.
Iyyadurai added five kills, along with seven digs and a block. Freshmen
Dzeneta Harambasic recorded a match-high 17 assists, while junior
Yasmine Bachtarzi contributed five aces and three kills.
Match Two
Freshman
Yana Shaposhnikova led the Lavender & Black with three kills while adding eight digs. Senior
Irishvarsha Iyyadurai chipped in three kills, four digs, and one block.
Hunter was led by six kills apiece from Julia Connolly and Marlena Budna. Miranda Hogan posted 19 assists and 14 digs while Taylor Haiduk had a match-high nine digs and four aces in the win.
CCNY's overall record now moves to 2-3, while having a 1-1 conference mark.
The Beavers have off Sunday and return to action Monday night in non-conference play at St. Joseph's College - Long Island before hosting conference rival Baruch on Thursday and St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Friday at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. Both matches are slated to begin at 7:00pm.
