Second-Half Comeback Falls Short At New Rochelle, 91-83

NEW YORK, NY – After a slow start on the road Monday, The City College of New York men's basketball team fell to the College of New Rochelle 91-83, after its second-half comeback fell short.

New Rochelle hit its first shot from deep to start the game and continued to roll from there. The Blue Angels sank their first three shots and later expanded their lead to as many as six (12-6) less than four minutes into the game. CCNY erased the deficit on a 10-4 run to tie the game with 13:45 remaining.

At halftime, CCNY trailed New Rochelle 52-37.

CCNY came out the locker room on a 9-to-2 run to cut the New Rochelle lead to five. The Blue Angels would stretch it back to 14, after Jaylin Gray's layup with 15:28 remaining regulation.

Down by as many as 14 with under 11 minutes left to play, CCNY used a 14-to-8 run midway through the second half to cut the New Rochelle lead to six (80-74). That was as close as CCNY would get.

CCNY shot well from the floor in the contest. The Beavers shot 25-for-53 (47.2%) from the floor and 13-of-26 (50%) from outside the arc.

Both Brendan Hauser and Enesco Hunte led the Beavers with 17 points and combined to go 5-of-10 from deep. James White would finish with 14 points, four steals and three assists. Dardan Lahu recorded a season-high 13 points and six rebounds.

Despite scoring just nine points, Salvatore Palazzolo recorded a game-high 15 rebounds. Ian Javier played well off the bench for the Lavender & Black, contributing 13 points, two assists and a steal.

The Beavers return to conference play on Thursday at Lehman College, for a 3 pm tip-off.
