NEW YORK, NY – The City College of New York men's basketball team dropped a CUNY Athletic Conference contest Monday evening, falling 84-73 to the College of Staten Island inside Nat Holman Gymnasium.
CCNY started the game on a 9-to-4 run to hold a five-point advantage over the Dolphins. CSI answered back, orchestrating a huge offensive run over the next 12 minutes of the first half. CSI outscored CCNY 28-to-11 in that time frame to take a 12-point lead (32-20) with 5:23 left in play.
The Beavers would get themselves back into the contest, capitalizing on defensive stops and executing on the offensive end. The Beavers held CSI to only one made baskets in the final six minutes of the first half, while scoring 14 points to end the half. The Dolphins took a 36-34 lead into the break.
The Beavers opened the second half on a 7-5 run to tie the game at 41-41 with under 18 minutes left in regulation. The Dolphins would a hold a single-digit for a majority of the second half.
With under six minutes in regulation, CSI built a 15 point lead late in the second half and CCNY could not recover.
Senior
Salvatore Palazzolo finished with a team-high 17 points, his tenth double-digit point effort of the season. The Middle village native also recorded seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior
Brendan Hauser netted 14 points, knocking down 4-of 6 from behind the line and pulling down five rebounds. Sophomore
Enesco Hunte notched 13 points in 39 minutes, while senior
Dardan Lahu finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
CCNY will face the John Jay Bloodhounds on Wednesday, Jan. 24 in the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
