Bronx, NY – The CCNY women's soccer team solidified its position in the upcoming CUNY Athletic Conference, with a huge win over Lehman College on Wednesday, 2-1.
With the victory against Lehman this evening, the CCNY women's soccer team has clinched the No. 3 seed in the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship next week. It is the third straight season the Beavers have appeared in the tournament since.
The first goal came in the 36
th minute of the match. Sophomore
Amy Gomez found the back of the net off a feed inside the box from
Susan Aracena to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead
The Beavers held 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Lehman would even the match in the second half when the Lightnings' Daisy Gomez netted an assisted goal at the 52:24 mark to tie the match at 1-1.
Less than eight minutes later, Aracena would boot in the game-winner off a free kick opportunity from 10 yards out. The goal was her 13
th of the season and second game-winning goal of the year.
Junior keeper
Catherine Langkamp came up with five saves in net and extends her record this season to 6-3 with the win.
CCNY's next game will take place in the semifinals of the CUNYC Championship. The Beavers will take on the No. 3 seed John Jay College Bloodhounds on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 6:30 pm. The match will be hosted at Brooklyn College.
