Staten Island, NY - In a game for first-place atop of the conference standings, the CCNY women's soccer teams' late-game comeback fell short against the College of Staten Island on Saturday, 4-2.
With the lost, the Beavers fall to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Staten Island got out early in the game, scoring their first goal in the fifth minute via a maker from Mirsade Pelinkovic.
In the final minutes of the first half, CSI doubled their lead as Samantha Lepardo chipped in the goal to put the Dolphins up 2-0 heading into halftime.
Junior
Susan Aracena scored CCNY's first goal, and her 11
th of the season on a free kick from 20 yards out, in the 53
rd minute.
Nine minutes later, Dolphins responded when Pelinkovic netted her second goal of the game to put the CSI back up two scores, 3-1.
At the 67:39 mark, CCNY cut back into Staten Island's lead when junior
Daniela Grisales-Agudelo took a breakaway chance and scored her 11
th goal of the season, putting the Beavers back within one score, 3-2.
The Dolphins were able to close the door to a comeback as Nicole Mignone added on an insurance goal in the 82
nd minute for CSI.

Catherine Langkamp made a season-high 14 saves in the lost.
The Beavers play next on Saturday, Oct. 13 at home against Sarah Lawrence at 9:30 a.m.
