New York, N.Y. - The CCNY men's basketball program fell at home in their 2018-19 home opener Tuesday night to conference opponent College of Staten Island, 92-79.
Despite the loss, all five starters for the Beavers scored in double-digits. Junior
Romello Rashad led the Lavender & Black with his first double-double of the season. Rashad had 13 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Junior
Ty-Ler Banks tallied a team-high 18 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
Isaiah Denard netted 16 points, knocking down 7-of-9 from the field. Senior
Mike White scored 15 points and matched Rashad with five assists.
Sophomore
Adem Gutic finished with a season-high 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Freshman
Daniel Piszczatowki added five points and two blocks.
CCNY led for nearly for much of the first half. After trailing 10-6 early in the contest (16:00), the Beavers used an 8-0 run to take a 12-10 lead with under 15 minutes remaining. A basket from Rashad (01:34) gave the Beavers their largest lead of the half, 44-38, heading into halftime.
The Dolphins would answer back in the second half. Behind a 60% shooting percentage in the period, CSI outscored the Beavers 34-15 in the first 12 minutes of the half to claim a 13-point lead at 72-59.
The Beavers cut the deficit to nine at 74-65 with 6:26 remaining, however, CSI pulled out the victory, 92-79.
CCNY returns to conference action on the road on Tuesday with a trip downtown to face Baruch College at 7:30 p.m.
