NEW YORK, NY – The City College of New York men's volleyball team swept a pair of matches against Newbury College and Sarah Lawrence at the Nat Holman Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers took the first match 25-20, 25-22, and 25-16 over Newbury College. Sophomore
Carlos Maldonado Madrid and senior
David Cham led the Lavender & Black in the opener vs. Nighthawks combining for 19 kills. Maldonado Madrid hit .529 with 12 kills, five aces, and three digs. Cham posted seven kills and four digs. Freshman
Abdullah Khalid finished with five kills and one block. Sophomore MB
Seth Diaz hit .364 with five kills and two solo blocks. Freshman
Hei Chun Chan led the match with a season-high 29 assists.
In the second match, CCNY dominated Sarah Lawrence 25-8, 25-9, 25-13. Maldonado Madrid broke out for a team-best 10 kills, recording eight aces and 18 points. Cham posted seven kills, six digs, four aces and two assists. Khalid hit .800 and had four kills and one block in the win. Chun Chan recorded 13 assists and
Andres Ramirez added five. Freshmen
Javier Lazo and
Jonathan Liao had five and four aces respectively. Diaz added three kills, along with two solo blocks digs.
CCNY is back in action Wednesday in a non-conference tilt at Purchase College at 7:00 pm.
