PURCHASE, NY - With four unanswered runs in the bottom of the seventh, the CCNY baseball team earned an 8-5 victory over the Baruch College on Sunday Night.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Lavender & Black led off the inning with a walk by senior
Anthony Sautter before sophomore
Brandon Gianikos singled down the right-field line put. Freshman
Chris Moreno put the Beavers on the board with a two-RBI triple to center field. Two batters later, Moreno came home on a
Cooper York on a sacrifice fly.
Both teams went scoreless in the sixth, before the Bearcats tallied three in the top of the seventh to regain the lead. Baruch's two scores came off a 2-RBI single to put the team up, 5-3.
The Beavers answered in the bottom of the inning. Moreno led the inning off with a deep double to right field.
Eric Giglio batted home Moreno on an RBI single through the left side. After York singled,
Rob Mandich drove knocked in
Hamley Volquez, who pinch-ran for Giglio, and York two at-bats later with a 2-RBI double down the left-field line. Mandich would tally a run after a throwing error by the catcher to boost the Beavers to a 7-5 lead.
CCNY added an insurance run with a score on Peter's single in the bottom of the eight to hold an 8-5 lead heading into the ninth inning.
In the ninth, sophomore
Christian Barletta closed out the win with his first save of the season by striking out one and producing a fly ball to left field.
The Beavers are next in action this Friday with a trip to Rutgers-Newark in a single-game. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
