Brooklyn, N.Y. – The CCNY women's soccer program opened up the CUNY Athletic Conference campaign with a dominant 12-0 win over York College on Wednesday.
The Beavers season-best offensive showing was highlighted by four player with multiple goals.
The Beavers got things going early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute on a goal by junior
Susan Aracena.
The Beavers turned on the heat, scoring three straight unanswered goals in the next 10-minute span. Starting the run, junior
Daniela Grisales-Agudelo scored in the 20
th minute, chipping in a shot off an assist by Aracena. Nearly five minutes later, sophomore
Amy Gomez made it a 3-0 game after another feed from Aracena. Shortly after, Aracena got on the board once again at the 27:15 mark.
CCNY added two more goals to end the first half when junior
Gabrielle Duchaussee and Grisales-Agudelo each knocked in goals from ten yards out to extend their lead to 6-0 going into halftime.
Opening the second-frame, Grisales-Agudelo added her third maker of the match in the 61
st minute of the game to make it 7-0. Duchaussee followed on the attack, picking up her second goal of the day in the 64
th minute.
Gomez then added her second goal of the match at the 66:21 mark, for her fourth goal of the season.
Jessica Pienkowsha,
Ingrid Rosario and
Tatiana Zuluaga all scored unassisted goals to close out the match.
The Beavers outshot the Cardinals, 26-1, including 12 shots on goal and led the match with eight corner kicks.
Junior
Catherine Langkamp improved to 2-1 on the season, allowing no goals in her second shutout of the season.
The win improves the Lavender & Black's record to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play. CCNY will look to continue the momentum on Saturday, Sept. 22 in their home opener against Old Westbury.
