New York, NY – The CCNY women's soccer program had a successful home-opener Saturday morning as the Beavers earned an overtime victory against Old Westbury, 3-2.
After a scoreless first half, Old Westbury got on board first when Brianna Williams netted a goal in the opening seconds of the second period to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Junior
Gabrielle Duchaussee scored the Beavers first goal of the day in the 56
th minute to tie the match. Sophomore
Amy Gomez setup up a pass off a deflected ball to find Duchaussee for her sixth goal of the season.
After Old Westbury was able to regain the lead on a penalty kick at the 73:30 mark on a maker by Shauna Henderson, CCNY answered back and tied the game on a penalty kick of their own. Junior
Susan Aracena converted the foul shot to even the match (2-2).
Nearly three minutes into the overtime period, Aracena step up big again for Beavers, booting in the game-winning goal on a free kick opportunity from 15 yards out.
Aracena led the Beavers with 12 total shots, including seven on goal. Duchaussee posted nine shots (5 SOG). Junior
Daniela Grisales-Agudelo had eight shots and freshman
Ingrid Rosario finished with seven shot attempts.
Junior
Catherine Langkamp made five saves in the game.
The Lavender & Black outshot the Panthers 40-10 and had a 7 to 1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 when the team host rival Lehman College in a conference matchup. The game will be hosted at Purchase College with a 6:00 p.m. start time.
