New York, N.Y. – The City College of New York men's volleyball team opened its 2019 season on Monday with a 3-0 sweep over Neumann University in front of a home crowd at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The Beavers won the first set 25-15. They had a 10-4 kill advantage, as the Knights had a .091 hitting percentage. CCNY took the second set 25-14, followed by closing out the match with a 25-15 in the final set.
Junior
Carlos Maldonado Madrid led the Beaver attack, posting nine kills, 10 digs, and tallied 12 points for the Beavers. Freshman
Xhulio Myftari made an impactful debut, posting nine kills, seven aces, two solo blocks. Junior
Seth Diaz had eight kills and three aces in the victory.
Sophomore
Hei Chun Chan added a match-high 26 assists and two aces. Sophomore
Javier Lazo contributed five kills and five digs.
The Beavers return to the court tomorrow when they visit Newbury College in Brookline, Mass.
