New York, N.Y. - The City College of New York men's basketball team suffered an 80-76 setback on the road Tuesday night to the John Jay College Bloodhounds.
After trading buckets to start off the game, a three-pointer from
Adem Gutic gave the Beavers a five-point lead less than six minutes into the game. The team's hot shooting continued as back-to-back shots from beyond the arc from
Athanasios Kamberis pushed the Beavers lead to 10 (34-24) with 7:36 to go in the half.
John Jay was able to answer back, closing the half on a 10-3 run, cutting CCNY's lead down to four points (43-39) heading into halftime.
CCNY continued to control the second half, leading the game over the first 11 minutes of the half.
An 11-6 run later in the half by the Bloodhounds tied the game at 55-55 with under nine minutes remaining in regulations.
After
Mike White hit two free throws, John Jay's Jordan Aiken and Essien Epps hit back-to-back shots to take a four-point lead, 63-59.
CCNY cut the deficit back to one with 3:17 left to go but the John Jay responded on a 6-0 run, taking a 73-66 with 1:19 left. Fouls call would help the Bloodhounds close out the game making nine of its final 10 free-throws.
Junior
Isaiah Denard led the way for the Beavers with a season-high 21 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes on the floor. Junior
Romello Rashad poured in 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Kamberis finish with 12 points, knocking down four three-pointers in the game. Junior Ty-ler Banks had 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
The Beavers return home on Friday, Feb. 1, when they welcome Medgar Evers College at 7:00 p.m., as the teams host Military Appreciation Night.
