New York, N.Y. – Five players in double-figures helped lead The City College of New York men's basketball program to a 90-77 victory over Medgar Evers College on Friday night.
The Beavers were in control early on as
Athanasios Kamberis buried a three-pointer to start the contest, spraking a 9-3 run. Nursing a lead as much as 12 in the first half, hot shooting from behind the arc (47.06 %), helped push the Beavers to a 43-40 lead heading into halftime.
After the Cougars closed the gap to two points less than three minutes into the second half, CCNY scored 10 straight points to earn a 10-point advantage (60-50) with under 13 minutes left. The Beavers largest lead of the half came after a layup from
Mike White (7:39) put the team up 17-points (75-58).
Junior
Ty-Ler Banks led the Lavender & Black with 28 points and 14 rebounds, for his seventh double-double of the season. Sophomore
Adem Gutic notched his second double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kamberis added 10 points, while
Romello Rashad finished with eight points, six rebounds, and seven assists.
White put up 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists while junior
Isaiah Denard dropped 12 points.
CCNY shot 49.3 % for the game including 20-of-35 (57.14 %) in the first half.
The Beavers hit the road for the next game at York College on Tuesday, Feb. 5.
