Brooklyn, N.Y. – The City College of New York women's basketball program opened the 2019 slate of their schedule with a 78-45 victory over conference opponent Medgar Evers College. The Beavers were led by three players scoring in double-digits.
CCNY led Medgar Evers 40-31 at the halftime break. CCNY shot 41.18 % from beyond the arc in the first half, hitting seven-for-17 from long range.
Using a 10-3 run to start the third quarter, the Beavers built up a 16-point lead at 5:38 of the third quarter and held the Cougars to only eight points in the period.
Over the course of the second half, the Lavender & Black dominated defensively, forcing the Cougars to commit 10 turnovers in the half, in addition to holding Medgar Evers to 18.8 % shooting.
Sophomore
Crystal Blair led CCNY with 16 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, and four steals, earning her fifth double-double of the season. Junior
Aaliyah McCrae scored a season-high 17 points, knocking down three-of-four triples from beyond the arc.
Senior
Debra Chan scored 10 points to go along with two assists and two steals. Senior
Emily Arias totaled nine points, four rebounds, and one steal. Sophomore
Melanie Torres notch seven points and seven rebounds in the contest.
With the win, CCNY improves to 7-4 on the season, and 3-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference play.
The Beavers will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 5 when they tip off at 12:00 p.m. against the visiting York College Cardinals.
