Women's Basketball Powers Past York On Kids Day

New York, N.Y. - On Saturday, the CCNY women's basketball team powered past York College, 64-40, inside of a jam-packed Nat Holman Gymnasium as they hosted Take-A-Kid to the Game Day.

The team improves to 8-4 and moves to 4-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference play. 

CCNY controlled the tempo for the first period, jumping out to a 19-5 lead with 2:15 to go in the frame. 

CCNY dominated York in the third quarter, not allowing the Cardinal to make any field goals in the frame. The Beavers outscored York 18-2 in the third quarter to catapult themselves to a 49-25 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Madison LaSalle hit a jumper at the 5:44 mark of the fourth to, allow give the Beavers their largest lead of the game (54-25). Iona would expand their lead to as many as large as 18 points.

The Lavender & Black shot 40.0 % from three-point range in the contest, connecting 10 three-point field goals.

Senior Debra Chan led the Beavers, tying her season-high of 18 points, while also shooting 57 % from beyond the arc. Junior Mara Poch dished out a game-high 10 assists and netted five points. Sophomore Crystal Blair totaled eight points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.

Senior Emily Arias scored nine points for CCNY, hitting on three three-pointers.  Senior Anielle Fredman recorded five points, six rebounds, and three assists.

The CCNY women's basketball team would like to thank special guest from PS 153 Elementary School in Harlem, Our Lady Queen of Angels Middle School, Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy 2 Charter School, and Harlem ROAR from Girl's Cheerleading for attending these years "Take-A-Kid to the Game Day".

The Beavers continue CUNYAC play hosting Hunter College on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Nat Holman Gymnasium at 5:00 p.m.
