New York, N.Y. - The City College of New York men's basketball team fell to the York College Cardinals, 91-68, on Saturday afternoon.
CCNY started the game off hot, scoring six unanswered points to start the contest. The Cardinals responded quickly, putting together a 21-5 run to hold a 21-11 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the opening half.
Down by as many as 15 in the first half, the Beavers closed out the half on a 16-8 run to cut the margin down to single digits by halftime, 39-32.
In the second half, the Beavers continued to play off their momentum, starting the half on a 7-0 run, tying the contest at 39 over two minutes into the half. A fastbreak layup from
Wils Jazilek (16:31) gave the Lavender & Black their first lead of the game since the first half (43-42).
York and CCNY would trade shots for the next three-plus mintes, going through five lead changes. York would eventually pull away from CCNY, as the Cardinals closed out the final ten minutes with a 28-13 run to earn the 91-68 victory.
Junior
Ty-Ler Banks finished with a team-high 18 points off the bench. Junior guard
Romello Rashad added 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Senior
Wils Jazilek played well off the bench, posting 15 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
The CCNY men's basketball team would like to thank special guest from PS 153 Elementary School in Harlem, Our Lady Queen of Angels Middle School, Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy 2 Charter School, and Harlem ROAR from Girl's Cheerleading for attending these years "Take-A-Kid to the Game Day".
The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 9, welcoming Hunter College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.
