STATEN ISLAND, NY -- The City College of New York men's soccer team took on the College of Staten Island for the final time before the Dolphins' move to Division II on Saturday afternoon. Playing their first game in a week, the Beavers (2-11-0) dropped a 4-0 decision to the Dolphins (7-5-1) at the CSI Soccer Complex.
Philip Lefkowitz put Staten Island on the board just 42 seconds into the contest, when he took a feed from Daniel Angulo and put it into the upper left corner. Lefkowtiz scored again in the 12th minute, and the Dolphins held that 2-0 advantage until Carlos Montesinos found the back of the net in the 87th minute. Breny Salas capped the scoring two minutes later, as Staten Island earned a 4-0 victory.
Staten Island outshot CCNY 18-6, and goalkeeper
Kacper Lesniak (Nowy Sacz, Poland) made three saves for the Beavers. The Dolphins' Cristian Carucci, meanwhile, was credited with two saves in the winning effort.
Because of Staten Island's pending reclassification, the game didn't count towards the CUNYAC standings. The Beavers are currently in seventh place with one conference match remaining. Only the top six teams will advance to the CUNYAC Tournament.
CCNY (2-4-0 CUNYAC) can qualify for the CUNYAC Tournament with a win over Baruch (6-7-1, 4-2-0 CUNYAC) and a York loss or tie against Hunter. The Beavers and Bearcats will square off at 4 p.m. on Wednesday from Randall's Island Field 10. Seniors
El Sayed Ali Jomaa (Beirut, Lebanon) and
Kevin Jusino (Cali, Colombia) will be recognized prior to the contest.
